What it is

A period drama set around Partition, adapted from Khadija Mastoor‘s novel of the same name. It follows a family’s internal relationships against the political rupture going on outside the house — the aangan, the courtyard, being the space the title puts at the centre.

Mastoor’s novel is among the more serious literary works Pakistani television has attempted. It was translated into English as The Inner Courtyard.

Who made it

Adapted for television by Mustafa Afridi and directed by Mohammed Ehteshamuddin.

Sajal Aly, Ahad Raza Mir and Mawra Hocane lead. The supporting ensemble includes Ahsan Khan in dual roles, Hira Mani, Sonya Hussyn, Abid Ali, Zaib Rehman, Omair Rana, Madiha Rizvi, Shehroz Sabzwari, Rabia Butt, Uzma Baig and Hassan Noman.

When

It originally aired from December 2018 to June 2019. The channel announced the return on Instagram. No broadcast date has been given.

No comment has been published from the cast or the channel beyond the announcement itself.
