8 dead in Kabul rocket attack, 30 injured

KABUL: At least 8 people have died and over 30 people have been wounded in a rocket attack targeting residential areas of Kabul.

Rockets were fired from a pick up truck according to the Afghan interior ministry.

Islamic State has accepted the responsibility for the deadly attack.

The attack occurred just hours before a meeting between US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Taliban representatives in an effort to resume peace talks.

“We convey our heartfelt condolences to the families of all those who lost their lives and pray for the early and complete recovery of the injured,” Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said in a statement.

Just a day earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan had paid a visit to Kabul to hold talks with Afghan President, Ashraf Ghani.
